Coco’s commitment for physical fitness began at a very young age. Her favorite story that her parents tell is the one of her determination at age 3 to go across the monkey bars. Despite the blisters on her hands and witnessing all the older kids fall off halfway, she did not give up until she made it all the way across.
Growing up she played multiple sports but her primary focus was swimming. Her dedication (yes, 4:30 a.m. swim practices everyday!) to the sport paid off and she was able to compete in the U.S. Olympic Trials and earned an athletic scholarship to the University of Virginia.
In college, Coco became ill and had to ‘readjust’ her life, creating an identity for herself that did not involve swimming or performance. On her road to recovery, she had to redefine what working out meant to her.
She started looking into different forms of exercise that were healthy and appropriate for her at that time. You name it, she has most likely tried it! Coco loves to think beyond the traditional approaches to exercise/fitness and uses a subjective and individualized approach to her training.
Exercise for Coco is an art form and creative outlet. She is committed to being fun, positive, and supportive, not an angry drill sergeant.
Her philosophy on exercise is that it should challenge, energize, and empower you and believes that the best fitness routine is practical (the one that you will follow). Like Theodore Roosevelt once said, “do what you can, with what you have, where you are.” An awesome workout is one that makes you feel good physically, mentally, and emotionally.
